KET – KEY ENGLISH TEST / KET FOR SCHOOLS

A2 level

It is for candidates who have learnt English for about a year  (level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe). This exam helps to stimulate children and teenagers for future language study.  KET for Schools is adjusted to the experience of pupils of elementary schools.

Contents of the Exam
  • Reading  + Writing – 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Listening – 30 minutes
  • Speaking – 8-10 minutes in pairs

Marks and results
To pass the exam, a candidate must reach at least 70% of the total number of points. It is not necessary  to reach this percentage level in all parts of the exam to pass it successfully. Sucessful candidates will receive a certificate with ´Pass with Merit´ (first mark) or ´Pass´ (second mark). Unsuccessful marks are ´Narrow Fail´or ´Fail´.
 

PET — PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST / PET FOR SCHOOLS
B1 level

It is for candidates who have learnt English for about two years (level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe). This exam helps to stimulate teenagers for future language study or it can serve as a language qualification for receptionists or lower level admin personnel. PET for Schools is adjusted to the  experience of pupils of elementary schools. This exam is recognized as an alternative to the Slovak Maturita exam*.

Contents of the Exam
  • Reading  + Writing - 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Listening – 40 minutes
  • Speaking – 10-12 minutes in pairs

Marks and results
To pass the exam, a candidate must reach at least 70% of the total number of points. It is not necessary  to reach this percentage level in all parts of the exam to pass it successfully. Sucessful candidates

will receive a certificate with ´Pass with Merit´ (first mark) or ´Pass´ (second mark). Unsuccessful marks are ´Narrow Fail´ or ´Fail´.



FCE — FIRST CERTIFICATE IN ENGLISH
B2 level

It is for candidates who have learnt English for 4 – 5 years. (Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe). It is the most widespread level worldwide and is recognised as proof of level throughout the world. FCE is an ideal examination for people who want to use English for work (e.g. secretaries) and study purposes. This exam is recognized as an alternative to the Slovak Maturita exam*.

Contents of the Exam
  • Reading  - 1 hour
  • Writing – 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Use of English – 45 minutes
  • Listening – 40 minutes
  • Speaking – 14 minutes

To pass the exam, a candidate must reach at least 60% of the total number of points. It is not necessary  to reach this percentage level in all parts of the exam to pass it successfully. Successful candidates will receive a certificate with marks A, B or C. Unsuccessful marks are either D or E.



CAE — CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED ENGLISH
C1 level

It is for candidates who have learnt English for about 7 years. (Level C1  of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe). This exam is aimed at people who can use English for most Professional and social puposes. A number of British universities require this exam as proof of  language competence. This exam is recognized as an alternative to the Slovak Maturita exam*.

Contents of the Exam
  • Reading - 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Writing – 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Use of English – 1 hour
  • Listening – 40 minutes
  • Speaking – 15 minutes

Marks and results
To pass the exam, a candidate must reach at least 60% of the total number of points. It is not necessary  to reach this percentage level in all parts of the exam to pass it successfully. Successful candidates will receive a certificate with marks A, B or C. Unsuccessful marks are either D or E.



CPE — CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH
C2 level

It is for candidates who have learnt English for about 8 years. (Level C2  of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe). This level is close to the language competence of native speakers. Holders of this exam are up to language standards required for entry to British, European and overseas universities. This exam is recognized as an alternative to the Slovak Maturita exam*.

Contents of the Exam
  • Reading - 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Writing – 2 hours
  • Use of English - 40 minutes
  • Speaking – 19 minutes

To pass the exam, a candidate must reach at least 60% of the total number of points. It is not necessary  to reach this percentage level in all parts of the exam to pass it successfully. Successful candidates will receive a certificate with marks A, B or C. Unsuccessful marks are either D or E.
